Repeatedly asked not to retire, I worked until the age of 73.

I didn’t think that I would work for so many years. Whenever I said that it was about time to retire, Mr. Yano, the former president, always replied, “Are you sure you have nothing to regret?” and I ended up working until the age of 73.

“Nobusue-san, you have a big family. You should take them home.”

If you ask what the most memorable items at Daiso are, I would say household items.
A few decades ago, when suppliers brought samples for a business discussion, Mr. Yano often gave them to me saying, “Nobusue-san, you have a big family. You should take them home.” I still use those spoons and cups at home.

We went all out through bad times and good times.

I remember the day I organized the reception for the new workers who finished the week-long training camp and returned to the company. They came back on the bus exhausted. So, everybody prepared a barbeque together. I brought a huge rice cooking pot, which could cook 5-6 kg at once, and we made countless rice balls. The former president (Hirotake Yano, the founder) always wanted to go all out through bad times and good times.
